Robert Finney
M, b. 16 February 1607/8, d. 7 January 1688
Biography | Robert first appears in the Plymouth records on 2 December 1639, when he was assigned a garden place in Webb's Field with his brother John Finney and nephew William Fallowell. Robert and his brother John each received grants of six acres on the brook coming from Fresh Lake. On 16 September 1641, Robert was on the list of those able to bear arms for the town of Plymouth in August 1643. He was constable in 1645 and was made a freeman of the colony on 7 June 1647. he was deputy to the General Court from Plymouth, 1657-60, 1661-64, 1669 and 1670-1672. Although Robert was frequently a juryman, he was fined on 4 October 1653 for failing to serve on a jury. He was granted lands at Taunton in 1662. On 1 June 1663 he was appointed with others to view the lands on the north side of Seconk and make a report to the court. Robert was granted 100 acres at Namassakett River, "if it may be had there", otherwise at Acuschenett, on 2 July 1667. In 1666 he was both selectman and surveyor of highways for the town of Plymouth. He was a deacon of the church there from 1669 until his death. He and Phebe had no children.1 |
